Why We Plant A Tree For Every Wedding We Photograph

For every wedding we photograph, we fund a sapling to be planted through Ecologi to celebrate our couple’s marriage. Our couples receive a link to their tree and can see the wider project it supports. It is part of our effort to build a wedding photography business that reflects what matters to us: nature, thoughtful choices, and giving something back. We are still learning. We are not a perfect zero-waste business, but we are trying to make better choices in an industry shaped by waste and single-use products.

A tree to mark the start of a marriage

Since the end of 2024, for every wedding we photograph, we fund a sapling through Ecologi. A small gesture, but one that feels meaningful to us. Weddings celebrate a new beginning and planting a tree feels like a fitting way to mark that. Something rooted, something that grows over time.

Why planting trees matters

Trees support biodiversity, wildlife habitats, soil health, and provide cleaner air, and we know that one tree does not solve climate change. But we do believe that small actions still matter, especially when repeated over time. For us, this is less about claiming perfection and more about building habits that reflect our values.

Why this matters to us

Nature is a big part of our lives, we spend so much time outdoors. From our constant attempts at gardening, exploring our countryside, and trying to experience nature in a considered way. Nature naturally shapes how we photograph weddings too. We are drawn to natural light, open landscapes, outdoor celebrations, changing seasons, and honest moments between people.

Being a nature loving wedding photographer is not a marketing angle for us. It is simply how we live.

Trying to build a more sustainable wedding photography business

The wedding industry can generate a lot of waste. Single-use products, excess packaging, paper admin, disposable décor.

We are still learning and we are far from perfect, but we try to make thoughtful choices where we can.

Some of the ways we try to reduce our impact include:

  • Funding a tree through Ecologi for every wedding

  • Digital contracts and invoices instead of paper admin

  • Delivering galleries online through Pic-Time

  • Being mindful about what we print

  • Mindful use of Artificial Intelligence

  • Combining travel where possible and usually travelling in one car

  • Purchasing second-hand and refurbished equipment

  • Using recycled and recyclable materials when we send products

  • Working with sustainable suppliers

None of these changes are revolutionary on their own but together, they help us build a business that feels more aligned with what we care about.

Sustainable values without the greenwashing

We do not want to pretend we have everything figured out. Running a photography business still involves travel, equipment, technology, and consumption. But we believe there is value in trying. Making better choices where possible, staying honest about where we are, and continuing to learn. That feels more useful than waiting for perfect.
